AN APPLICATION has been made to convert part of a Homebase car park into a Greggs drive-through.

Plans have been submitted to Winchester City Council for the home improvement store car park off Easton Lane in Winnall.

Royal London Mutual Insurance Society Ltd, the current freehold owner of the Homebase unit, is proposing to cut parking spaces from 196 to 152 to accommodate a Greggs restaurant and drive-through.

The bakery would be able to seat 36 customers and be open from 5.30am-11pm every day.

Hampshire Chronicle:

The planning statement also proposed that the existing footway be extended to a new zebra crossing “with tactile paving at the end of the drive-thru lane” in addition to a new pedestrian route through the car park from Homebase to Greggs.

If approved, the restaurant and drive-through is expected to create around 20 jobs, including two full-time and 18 part-time positions.

The bakery has been positioned as far away from Homebase as possible to ensure enough parking can be retained, while two new disabled parking spaces would be placed close to the drive-through.

Additionally, Royal London Mutual Insurance Society Ltd has proposed a covered cycling shelter for up to 10 bikes which could be used by delivery riders and customers.

The application was validated by the council on February 22 but is yet to be approved.

The plan follows the recent opening of the city’s third Greggs site at the petrol station in Bar End.
