MY MOBILE telephone charges are going up by 17.3% from April!

The Government has allowed O2 to raise prices using the February RPI of 13.4% “plus an additional 3.9% as set out in your terms”.

Compare that to the offer made by the government to nurses of 3.5% and the difficulties in the public sector of getting any settlement even approaching the current 10.1% inflation rate. Why the different yardsticks?

Nurses and others are being forced to tighten their belts whilst Virgin Media O2 were able to report on 23rd February “Accelerating profitability”. Their guidance anticipate a “cash distribution” to shareholders this year “to be £1.8 - £2.0bn”. Their total revenue last year was £10.4bn.

Clearly there is one set of rules for the corporate tycoons and shareholders and another one for ordinary hard-working people.

The inflation is not just driven by the war or the oil prices, it is accelerated by cooperate greed and governmental actions.
