GREGGS has opened a store at a Winchester petrol station.
The High Street baker has opened a branch at Esso station on Bar End Road, launching yesterday after being shut for two months due to a six-figure refurbishment.
The increased offering will be welcomed by many in the Bar End and Highcliffe area which has long lost grocers-type shop.
Pardeepkumar San, manager of Esso Winchester, said ‘it was a very old store’ and added: “This store hasn’t had a level up in 40 years. We mostly have a lot of food development, especially the Greggs, it’s new for us. In the shop we’re bringing in more of a range like Rollover, Dunkin Donuts, Costa and a lot of other stuff.

“The revamp was close to £1 million, it’s the first time we’ve spent that much money to relevel up the forecourt, shop side, the whole lot. The car wash systems allow you to pay at the pump, you don’t need to come inside at all. New car wash machines came to around £40-50,000.”
Mr San said: “Electronic car charging points, EV points, are expected to be built in the next five to six months and hours have not changed, it is still 24 hours. Every customer has left positive comments, everybody likes the layout of the shop, but now it has a very modern style, the latest modern style”.
