STUDENTS studying military logistics at a Hampshire college were given an insight into a career in logistics and shipping in the commercial world.

Meachers Global Logistics welcomed 16 students from the Defence College of Logistics, Policing & Administration (DCLPA) in Worthy Down to help develop their understanding of commercial logistics.

The group was given a tour of the warehouse in Nursling and an overview of the processes it uses, with the aim of building the military students’ understanding of logistics outside the military.

The keen learners watched what equipment and software is used to collect, store and transport goods around the world. Additionally, the students were given an insight into the communications systems and wider supply chain pipeline for commercial logistics.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Commercial director Gary Whittle said: “It was a pleasure to work with the college and open our doors to its students. The visit gave them an opportunity to see our processes up close, put questions to our team and gain a better understanding of a side to logistics that they might otherwise not get to experience.

“We’re always happy to partner with schools and colleges and show what it is we do and the important role our industry plays in keeping business moving.”

Sgt Santosh Gurung, of the Engineer Logistics Division at DCLPA, said: "Everybody enjoyed taking part and we would like to thank the team at Meachers Global Logistics for hosting us. The visit provided a real insight into how the logistics operation functions within the civilian industry. It was a great opportunity to witness the complete supply chain process, from receiving goods to delivery and consignment tracking, which is what our students are learning about.”
