SCENES of a Prince William lookalike for The Crown were shot in Winchester.

Actor Ed McVey was photographed walking down College Street outside Winchester College as The Crown’s production company Left Bank Pictures took over the road.

McVey, who plays a young Prince William at Eton, was sporting a red rugby top as he walked along the road with a group of similarly dressed boys.

Hampshire Chronicle:

The filming in Winchester is for the sixth series of the Netflix show, following the lives of the Royal Family throughout the 1990s and into 2003.

The release date for the upcoming series is yet to be revealed but set to happen next year.

The role of Prince William was previously played by Senan West, son of Dominic West who portrays Charles in both the fifth and current series.

Rising American star Ed McVey, 22, graduated from the Drama Centre London in 2021 after four years of training, with The Crown being his TV debut.

Hampshire Chronicle:

College Street has been closed to vehicles for Monday, February 13 and Tuesday, February 14 from 8am-6.30pm, with a parking suspension until 7pm on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, pedestrians are being allowed to pass in between filming. As well McVey and the actors playing his school friends, extras such as a mother and her pram lined the pavements of the road as they waited to walk in the background.

Hampshire Chronicle:

The road had been cleared of vehicles, with only older cars being featured in the set remaining.

This is the second time The Crown has been filmed in Winchester in a month, with the cathedral being used just weeks ago for what’s thought to be a wedding or a funeral.
