A HAIRDRESSERS in Winchester has been proving it is a cut above with its community work - by offering a free haircut to deserving community heroes.

Haringtons Hairdressing has begun offering a free service to selected people who receive nominations from the public.

The Haringtons Helps concept offers individuals and groups within their communities the chance to come and experience Harringtons’ Cut and Finish service free of charge, to raise the spirits of those who need it.

Through the initiative, many carers, charity workers and volunteers have already been given the confidence boost of a good-looking haircut and are listed on their website with the words: “Because let's face it, on a good hair day, you can conquer the world!.”

A spokesperson for Haringstons said: “At Haringtons we have always been proud members of the communities we serve, offering to help when asked and providing a service which we know improves the well-being of our customers.

“With the world providing little opportunity for positivity right now we wanted to extend our reach and give back a little more, with the simple aim of spreading a little joy and so we came up with the concept Haringtons Helps.”

Each week the receptionists will share the available appointments and book them on a first-come, first-served basis, with its Winchester site located at 16 The Square, just behind The Winchester Bakery on High Street.

The spokesperson added: “Whether it’s a thank you to the leader of a community group doing vital work, some recognition of a volunteer that’s gone the extra mile, a little pick me up haircut for someone who has lost their job or a confidence boost for those who have come out of the other side of chemo - we’re there.”
