The Mayor and Mayoress of Test Valley recently visited the open day at Romsey Signal Box,
Cllrs Alan and Celia Dowden, visited the site, in Brick Lane, on February 5.
The site has been restored by Dick Hewitt and a band of volunteers.
Cllr Alan Dowden said: "We learned about the history of train signalling, through to modern day computerised system. Then, 15-year-old Charlie Wainwright, gave us an excellent demonstration of the workings of a signal box, before inviting me to have a go.

“It was interesting and entertaining, and I really enjoyed having a go. But I can confirm, for reassurance, that no trains were involved during my practice run.
“I congratulate all the volunteers who have contributed to making this unique attraction. Currently there is development taking place of an interactive educational area for schools to take advantage of.”
