CHILDREN from a school in Chandler’s Ford enjoyed a day of all things 90, in celebration of the school’s birthday.

Sherborne House School pupils had fun attempting what activities they could do in 90 seconds including a conga, how many chairs could they stack, how many star jumps how many people they could talk to and how many times could they say the alphabet.

The older students wrote poems about the school while the younger children decorated stones with a 90 theme. A group of year-one kids made the number 90 out of their bodies, all to celebrate the school’s 90th birthday on January 19.

Hampshire Chronicle:

The head boy wrote the following poem:

Sherborne House School

I have lived many years.

Sitting here, assuring the fact that every child has the right to learning.

This year is my ninety year anniversary,

and I couldn't be more rejoiced to be here today.

I strive in happiness when I admit pupils into my wise hands.

These ninety years I have:

looked, learned and listened.

My heart is filled with contentment when I sight the students.

So joyous, and happy.

So delighted to learn.

The school was also treated to an extended lunch of 90 minutes and a 90-year history of the facility's evolution.

One previous pupil said: "I remember “Spring-Cleaning Day" - we used to be so excited about it. That day we brought in our own cleaning cloths and sponges - and scrubbed and cleaned our own desks and chairs (our desks were the ones that had lift-up lids and we could keep our belonging in them) - this day happened every year and we loved it."

Teaching assistant, Rachel Emmett, said: “We were keen to celebrate this event with the children to enable them to connect to the school's history and how it has developed over the years. The children were fascinated to see and hear about the school's past. We had old uniform, photos and yearbooks on display for them to see.”

Hampshire Chronicle:

The school was opened by Mrs Eva Wise and her daughters Nancy and Dorothy in 1933. Mrs Wise was previously head of Sherbourne St John Primary School in Dorset which inspired the name for the Chandler’s Ford school.
