As a regular concert goer I was disappointed to read in the Chronicle letters page (January 19) that the Cathedral is no longer to allow concerts on Saturday evenings.
Apart from depriving audience members, some of whom cannot attend on weekdays, I imagine this will have a major impact on amateur performing groups, many of whose working members are only able to rehearse and perform at weekends.
Surely the Cathedral should be encouraging and facilitating as much access and activity as possible? Winchester Cathedral is a unique and wonderful asset which belongs to us all.
With its desperate need for income this action seems like 'shooting oneself in the foot'. What's behind this?
