AFTER three decades of policing in Hampshire, Test Valley’s district commander has retired.
Chief Inspector Kory Thorne enjoyed his last working day with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary on Monday, January 23.
The 54-year-old joined the force in February 1993 and started his career as a PC in Basingstoke.
A variety of roles followed, including working as a custody sergeant in Aldershot, a spell in roads policing and as a chief inspector in the New Forest.
In 2012, he became district commander for Test Valley, leading Neighbourhood Policing Teams in a large area of western Hampshire that includes Andover and Romsey.
Chief Insp Thorne said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time as district commander for Test Valley.

“It’s a diverse district in terms of what policing style has to be deployed.
“I have enjoyed working with our partners, who are very proactive, and I have enjoyed the successes we have had in dealing with criminality and anti-social behaviour.
“The main highlight has been that, for the most part, we have been able to keep Test Valley as a safe place.”
Chief Insp Thorne now plans to take some time off to travel and see relatives.
MP for Andover, Kit Malthouse, paid tribute to Mr Thorne, saying the officer had been an outstanding leader in Test Valley.
The North West Hampshire MP said: “Active and knowledgeable, he has always been highly responsive to community concerns and has been a pleasure to work with.
“I’ve seen a lot of police officers in action over the years, and Kory’s local knowledge, skills and dedication put him in my front rank.
“In particular, his relentless battle against drugs in Andover and his determination to confront the county lines gangs has been commendable.
“We are all deeply grateful for his commitment to the safety of our town and district — and we wish him well for his retirement after three decades of public service.”
