A SCHOOL in Chandler’s Ford is celebrating 90 years with a day of activities based around the number 90.
Sherborne House School celebrated its birthday on Thursday, January 19.
The preparatory school pupils saw what they can achieve in 90 seconds and were treated to an extended 90-minute lunch break before a celebratory assembly with a guest appearance from a former pupil.
The school was opened by Mrs Eva Wise and her daughters Nancy and Dorothy in 1933. The name was inspired by Sherbourne St John Primary School in Dorset which Mrs Wise previously led as headteacher.

Upon her mother’s retirement, Dorothy took over as head and kept the position for more than 30 years. The founding ethos of traditional family values has persisted throughout the school’s 90-year history.
Between 1984 and 2003, two more families ran the school in private ownership and expanded the facility's size and educational opportunities.
In 2013, a new classroom block and an additional hall were built. And in 2016, Sherborne House School became part of the Bellevue Education group, a world-class group of schools aiming to provide the best possible education to children and students.

Sherbourne House is also an accredited member of the Independent Schools Council and receives regular inspections from the Independent Schools Inspectorate. The latest inspection, in June 2021, saw the school receive an ‘Excellent’ rating, which is the highest grade possible.
The co-educational school, which looks after children aged six months to 11 years old, now offers free events to the public including ‘Little Steps’ for young babies, ‘Tall Tales’ and ‘Stay and Play’ for all pre-school children and ‘Steps to Prep’ for all children in year two.
