Traffic ground to a halt this morning after police closed part of the M27 due to a serious incident.
Motorists travelling eastbound on the M27 were stuck in gridlocked traffic for several hours.
This is what we know so far about the incident.
What happened?
Officers were called to a “serious incident” on the M27 eastbound between junctions 11 and 12 at around 2.20am this morning.
Closures were put in place whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.
What caused the closure?
Hampshire Constabulary are yet to confirm details surrounding the lengthy closure.

However, enquiries remain ongoing to ascertain the exact circumstances of the incident.
Has the motorway reopened?
The eastbound entry slip has reopened.
The outside lane remains coned off for a short stretch eastbound approaching the junction 10 entry slip road.
Traffic is coping well.

However, there is another ongoing incident in lane one, between junctions nine and 10.
