A BUS company is encouraging passengers in Winchester and Romsey to 'get around for £2' with capped bus fares for the first three months of 2023.
To kickstart 2023 Stagecoach has introduced £2 bus fares for single journeys and is urging Winchester passengers to make the most of a deal with a trip to Romsey or Alton.
The capped prices are available until the end of March as part of the Department for Transport’s new fares initiative under the government’s Help for Households campaign to ease financial pressures.
Stagecoach hopes residents will leave their cars at home with the new initiative designed to save money compared to the cost of petrol. The scheme also aims to benefit the environment with one full double-decker bus taking more than 70 cars off the road.

Managing director for Stagecoach South, Gordon Frost, said: “We are pleased that this initiative is now live, which will help so many people at a time where money needs to stretch further and at the same time aims to reduce car use and encourage people onto more sustainable public transport.
“We already offer some of the lowest ticket prices in the country, with daily travel under £3. We hope that this new promotion helps more people to get on board with us and continue benefitting from our value-for-money tickets after the government scheme has ended.”
The scheme means all adult, concession and child single tickets on eligible routes will be capped at £2, with any single tickets previously cheaper than this remaining the same price. The cap applies to all journeys with some exceptions such as night buses.
