AN ENTREPRENEUR from Winchester has seen success after his app was featured on The Gadget Show last year.
Winchester resident James Walker’s app, Jam Doughnut, was featured on the consumer electronics television show in November after it launched in March.
The app allows users to receive instant cashback on purchases they make online and in-store at participating brands.
James explained: “It basically gives instant cashback to people for using the app shopping online and in-store.

“So, we’ve got consumers using it for everyday groceries, to eating out, to buying clothing and travel, and consumers are cashing out £2,000 to £3,000 a day, and it’s only been live for six months now.”
James was inspired to create the app after his success with Resolver, an online tool which helps consumers issue complaints to companies.
He said: “I thought, what about building something that had a better rating system and rewarded consumers for buying from people and helping them resolve issues?

“And as I started building the app I realised that the other two bits were going to be massive as well, so why not focus on one area, and ended up focusing on the cashback, and went ‘actually, there’s a different way of doing this where we can give the cashback instantly as opposed to the way it’s been done in the market traditionally’”.
Since its launch last year, Jam Doughnut has been voted the number one cashback site on TrustPilot, and was featured on an episode of the Gadget Show.
James said that the app's success is “absolutely amazing”.
He continued: “I didn’t think we would get such traction so quickly.
“I didn’t even know it was going to be featured on things like The Gadget Show until they emailed me to say ‘It’s going to be on the show in two weeks’ time’, that they’d found out about it, they’d been using it and they loved it enough to put it on the TV.”

James said that the app, which currently has partnerships with 150 retailers, is planning on adding more brands to the platform in the new year with hopes that it will feature 1,000 retailers by the middle of 2023.
He added: “We’re looking at more high street brands, but also how we can help local brands to be able to get greater visibility with consumers.”
Jam Doughnut is currently available on both Android and IOS app stores.
