A GROUP that offers friendship and well-being support for those aged 55 and over in the Winchester community has thanked those who made its festive celebration extra special.
St John’s charity runs its Hand in Hand service, which helps older people to remain independent for as long as possible.
The service is aimed at those who may want to get out and about, learn new skills, or meet new people, and for those who may benefit from extra support.
It held a Christmas party on Friday, December 9 at the Godson House Community Room with support from Neal Allison, social value manager of Osbourne Property Services and Monica Gill, who runs weekly groups at sheltered housing supported by Winchester City Council.

Winchester businesses also donated food such as Cook, The Winchester Bakery, M&S, Tesco Express, and the local Fruit and Veg market stall.
Collette Ford, from St John's Hand in Hand, said: "As you can see by the photos everyone had a wonderful time, telephone numbers were exchanged, and new friendships were formed."
The group is free to attend and takes place at the Godson House Community Room every Friday from 10am until midday. Meetings start again on January 13.
There is also an established group that meets at Hyde Gate, Hyde every Tuesday from 10am until midday.
People can now refer themselves to the group. For more details call 01962 827795 or email handinhand@stjohnswinchester.co.uk
