MR Hayter's piece in the Chronicle - 'Life enriched 60 years ago' brought back to me similar memories of 60 years ago.

Just before the Beatles became globally famous there was a local group who had a hit number one here, and I believe in America, which coincided with the first trans-Atlantic live television transmission via satellite.

The record was, of course, Telstar inspired by the satellite's name and recorded by the group The Tornados. One of its members was Heinz Burt who lived just opposite me in Sparrow Square and we frequently played on the 'green' as schoolboys.

I still have the vinyl record but regrettably I never thought to get it autographed! He has been commemorated by Eastleigh Council by naming a local road after him.
