WINCHESTER'S charitable talking newspaper played host to a special guest last week.

Hampshire Chronicle editor Kimberley Barber stopped by at the Winchester & District Talking Newspaper Association to meet the volunteers.

She even recorded several articles from that week's edition as well as some letters, and her monthly opinion piece.

The charity, which operates from Unit 12, in Winnall Valley Road, Winnall, provides weekly recordings of extracts from the Hampshire Chronicle and a monthly magazine to those in the Winchester area.

It is run by a group of volunteers and organised by chairman John Richards.

The recordings are free of charge to any blind or partially sighted person either through a memory stick or on its website - winchestertalkingnews.com.

Kimberley said: "It was a delight to meet the dedicated group at Winchester Talking News.

"They really do a smashing job reading the newspaper and bringing it alive for people who may otherwise not be able to access it.

"I hope the regular listeners were not put off too much by my accent, I am certainly not a great radio voice, unlike some of the wonderful people who give their time each week.

"I am grateful to them for helping to promote my newspaper's work and hope to work more closely with them in the new year."
