The crash between a Xelabus vehicle and a Toyota Corolla happened at about 3.25pm on December 2 shortly after the end of the day at Thornden School.

The bus company has said it is working with police to understand how it happened.

A Xelabus spokesman said: "As you would expect we are working with the police to understand why the car drove into our bus and we do know there were no injuries."

No Thornden children were hurt.

In an email to parents Lou Peaston, assistant headteacher, said: "I am writing just to let everyone know that the Thornden Xelabus has been involved in a minor accident outside of the school.

"All Thornden students are safe and well and have arranged alternative ways of getting home. At present, traffic is at standstill by the far exit of the school site (Nuffield End). You can currently access and exit the school site by the main driveway."

According to AA Traffic news, Winchester Road was closed both ways from Hiltingbury Road to the private hospital next to Thornden Schoo due to the accident.

A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 3.26pm to a report of a road traffic incident on Winchester Road.
