TIS’ the season at the Theatre Royal with a selection of festive shows and events, from comedy nights to pantomimes, taking place in the run-up to Christmas.

Here are five things you can do at the Theatre Royal in Winchester to get in the Christmas spirit this year:

Festive Artisan Market

The free seasonal market will be at the theatre and the neixt door The Arc, from 10am-5pm on Saturday, November 26. The venue will host local artists and crafters selling artisan gifts such as greeting cards, jewellery and Christmas decorations. Hot food and drink will be available as well as live music.

The Wizard of Oz

This year’s pantomime at Theatre Royal Winchester will be following the yellow brick road from Saturday, December 3, 2022 to Monday, January 2, 2023. The family favourite will feature professional stage actors and returning stars from previous pantos. The show, written and directed by James Barry with music by Simon Slater, lasts approximately two hours. ​

Performances are categorised by standard (gold, silver or bronze) and are priced respectively, with tickets starting from £10.50. Winchester Comedy Festival: Winter Gala

An evening of comedy from award-winning comics Isy Sutie, Luisa Omielan, Josh Pugh and Tom Deacon will take place on Thursday, December 8 at 7.30pm. Tickets for this event are currently sold out but a waiting list is available to join to have the chance to buy any tickets that become available again.

The Spitfire Sisters

The vocal harmony trio from Winchester are returning to their home city to play a selection of festive tunes on Thursday, December 15 at 7.30 pm. Tickets are available from £15 on the Theatre Royal website. Play to the crowd members will receive a 10 per cent discount.

The Santa Show 2022: Santa Saves Christmas

Following last year’s sell-out performance, Honalee Media has announced its latest Christmas production, The Santa Show 2022: Santa Saves Christmas will be coming to Winchester on Monday, December 19. The show will take place at 10.30 am, 1.30 pm and 4 pm. Tickets cost £10 with every child receiving a present as well as having the chance to meet Father Christmas. A live stream of the performance will also be available to view for £8.
