A WINCHESTER man has been jailed for an unprovoked attack in the city centre.
Dean Castle, 36, whose address on the court record was given as the High Street, Winchester, pleaded guilty to the racially aggravated assault on Ashik Ali on June 16.
Magistrates in Basingstoke on November 17 jailed Castle for four weeks without a pre-sentence report. The Bench said it was an unprovoked attack of a serious nature and was aggravated by previous convictions.
They said the sentence would have been a community order but was worsened by the racist nature of the offence.
Caste was also told to pay £100 compensation.
The court heard that Castle is currently serving another sentence and he was dealt with in his absence.
There was no order for costs because of Castle's poverty.
