A WINCHESTER nursery has made improvements after a poor Ofsted inspection.
Poppins Nursery and After School Care, based at The Carroll Centre in Stanmore, had been rated 'inadequate' by the regulatory body.
It stated that the 'children's safety and welfare are compromised'.
Now, the nursery has made the improvements after a follow-up visit by the inspectors on November 8.
The report said: “The focus of the visit was to check whether the provider had met the safeguarding and welfare actions raised.
“The provider responded to the actions set. We found that the provider and her staff had improved their knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures and now fully understand their responsibilities.
“The provider and staff have completed training and reviewed the process and procedures they follow for the safe recruitment of staff and volunteers, to ensure the suitability of those who take leadership roles in the nursery.

“The provider has implemented supervision for all staff, including leaders and managers, to ensure that they know how to fulfil their roles and responsibilities.
“We are satisfied the provider has met the safeguarding and welfare actions raised.”
Barbara Guthrie, chairman of trustees at The Carroll Centre, said: “The centre management team and trustees gave the highest priority to working to address the WRN that Ofsted identified as quickly as possible. We were supported by Hampshire County Council Early Years Team and also engaged as an independent early years advisor.
“However, Ofsted set an extremely ambitious timescale of five working days for the completion of all the requirements before returning to review the WRN. All actions were in progress but it was impossible to complete all the actions within the five working day timescale as some were dependent on responses from third-party organisations. This was taken into consideration and an extension was granted by Ofsted.
“We have now completed all the actions to a good standard and Ofsted has signed off the WRN.
“The organisation is continuing to work closely with HCC and other agencies and is confident that we will be able to achieve a 'good' Ofsted rating at our next inspection in early 2023.”
