PLANS for a new bungalow have received objections due to it being 'too big'.

The proposal is to build a bungalow on land to the rear of 169 Botley Road in Romsey.

The application, submitted by Mr Upfold, has received an objection from Romsey Town Council's planning committee.

They discussed the plan on November 10. Cllr Janet Burnage said: “It seems to be a big bungalow on a small plot.”

The committee decided to object on the grounds of it being too large for the plot and the design being out of keeping with the surrounding houses.

Two other objections have been submitted to Test Valley Borough Council.

Philip Warren, of Botley Road, said: “I note that it is proposed that the single lane access driveway also be used for parking usage. This would impede access by the emergency services and consequently not be advisable. The footprint of the roof is very large and as a result it will create challenges in respect to run-off management. Here the building placement near the eastern and northern plot boundaries will limit options to adequately deal with the issue.

“I note that due to its large size and the desire to maximise any garden space; the large building has been placed within a meter or two of the northern and eastern plot boundaries. This puts it close to my main private amenity space and the building will as a result, dominate the southern private outlook from my house.”

Charles Jones, of Pine Road, said: “The footprint of the proposed building occupies a considerable area of the plot and is not in keeping with the housing around it.

“It has a relatively very small garden area in comparison the footprint of the building.

“This plot is frequented by a considerable amount of birdlife and bats and it has been a joy to sit in our garden and watch them. I fear that this building will put an end to that, due to the small amount of open space remaining.”

On the planning statement, it said: “The negative feedback from the pre-planning application has been duly noted with the revised plans losing an entire storey from the proposal along with a reduction in bedrooms. There will be no longer be any position in which the proposed dwelling can overlook the neighbouring properties. There will be no longer be any overshadowing due to the pitch and height of the roof and the bungalow will no longer feel overbearing.”
