A POPULAR Thai restaurant chain has opened its first Hampshire restaurant - with all food half-price for the first week.

Giggling Squid has welcomed its first diners to its spacious new two-floor restaurant, which overlooks Winchester Cathedral.

It follows a major refurbishment of the site in The Square previously occupied by Slug and Lettuce and creates 50 jobs.

The menu features curries, stir-fries, and Thai tapas. An extensive vegan menu is also available as well as a kids’ menu for the 'Squidlets'.

Mouth-watering dishes include the Soft-Shell Pranee Prawns and Bamboo and Goldenberry Salad.

The restaurant enjoys a vibrant floral decor.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Giggling Squid co-founder, Andy Laurillard, said: "We’re delighted to be bringing the energetic, informal, and adventurous ethos of Thai mealtimes to Winchester. We believe food should be celebrated, and simply want people to relax and have a great time over something tasty!

"Like every Giggling Squid, our new Winchester restaurant has its own personal touch to it. The beautifully designed space features eye-catching bold wallpaper that complements the stunning first-floor conservatory garden room, and we hope it will bring a lot of pleasure to our guests. We’re so excited to welcome everyone in the Winchester community.”

The 50 per cent off deal runs throughout opening week, until Sunday (November 13).

Hampshire Chronicle:

A Christmas menu, featuring festive starter, main and dessert with a Thai twist, will be launched later this month. A wide takeaway menu will also be available in the New Year for click-and-collect or telephone orders as well as delivery.

Giggling Squid Winchester is open seven days a week from 12pm to 10.30pm.

It’s been 20 years since co-founders and owners Andy and Pranee Laurillard first dreamt up their Thai tapas menu that’s still so popular on Giggling Squid menus across the country today. In 2002, they huddled together in the basement of a little fisherman’s cottage in Brighton, which became the first Giggling Squid, and devised a plan to bring the buzz of a Thai mealtime to the UK.

Giggling Squid now operates 46 venues. The closest restaurants until now were in Salisbury to the west, Chichester to the easy and Farnham to the north
