A NEW Thai restaurant has opened its doors in Winchester - and it's offering diners 50 per cent off their meals during launch week to celebrate.
Popular chain Giggling Squid will be welcoming customers from today (Monday, November 7) after completing a major refurbishment of the site previously occupied by Slug and Lettuce.
Overlooking Winchester Cathedral, the spacious two-floor restaurant will create 50 jobs in the city, including chefs, managers, and bar staff in full-time and part-time positions.
The menu features bright and bold "mouth-watering" dishes, celebrating Thailand’s trademark ingredients such as fresh seafood – the inspiration behind dishes such as Soft-Shell Pranee Prawns - and a bounty of herbs and vegetables to be enjoyed across the entire menu including the Bamboo and Goldenberry Salad.
Cooked by "expert" Thai chefs and featuring curries, sizzling stir-fries, and Thai tapas, an extensive vegan menu is also available as well as a kids’ menu for the 'Squidlets'.

Giggling Squid co-founder, Andy Laurillard, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing the energetic, informal, and adventurous ethos of Thai mealtimes to Winchester. We believe food should be celebrated, and simply want people to relax and have a great time over something tasty!
"Like every Giggling Squid, our new Winchester restaurant has its own personal touch to it. The beautifully designed space features eye-catching bold wallpaper that complements the stunning first-floor conservatory garden room, and we hope it will bring a lot of pleasure to our guests. We’re so excited to welcome everyone in the Winchester community.”
The restaurant is located at 12-13 The Square and is open Monday to Sunday from 12pm to 10.30pm.
A wide takeaway menu will also be available in the New Year for click & collect or telephone orders as well as delivery.
