PEDESTRIANS walking along Winchester High Street may have spotted Christmas lights hanging above.
Although the Christmas lights switch-on is still weeks away, festive lights now line Winchester High Street.
The lights were first spotted on Tuesday, October 25 morning. Winchester Business Improvement District (BID) manager Sarah Davis said: “The lights are being installed each night at the moment and so you’ll see new ones appear each morning. We work with a local contractor called Icthus who install the lights for us.”
Winchester BID is currently searching for a ‘local hero’ who will turn on the city’s lights at a switch-on event on Thursday, November 17.

Live entertainment will take place on the main stage outside the Guildhall in The Broadway from 4-7pm, with the lights being switched on by the local hero at 6pm to officially start Winchester’s festive season.
Winchester Christmas market will open the next day on Friday, November 18. Some of the German inspire huts have already been completed in the cathedral’s Inner Close. Crews from HazCos Enterprises are busy working to have the chalets ready by November 14.

For the second year running, the market will be without the popular ice rink.
The market will take place between November 18 and December 22 and be open from 10am to 6pm Sunday to Thursday and 8pm Friday to Saturday. Admission is free.
