Campaigners this week celebrated the opening of a new zebra crossing by a busy convenience store.
The crossing, on Main Road, Otterbourne, creates a safe pedestrian route to and from the local Nisa store towards the northern end of the village.
Hampshire County Councillor Jan Warwick and Otterbourne Parish council lobbied highways chiefs for the crossing.
A study conducted by Hampshire Highways showed that a significant number of pedestrians were trying to cross at this point following the expansion of the shop.
Cllr Warwick said: “I am really pleased on behalf of the residents of Otterbourne to see the work to deliver this new, safe crossing has now been completed.
"I would like to thank the team of Highways Engineers at Hampshire County Council who designed the crossing and also managed to slow traffic approaching from the south using a series of lines to visually narrow the road."
Funding for the crossing was achieved using a combination of support from Otterbourne Parish Council, Community Infrastructure Levy funds from Winchester City Council, and Cllr Warwick’s community grant.
