AFTER being awarded Children in Need’s fundraiser of the year, a charitable woman is continuing her efforts with her biggest event yet.

Amy Wright, from East Wellow, was named Children in Need’s fundraiser of the year for 2021, after 31 years of raising money for the BBC charity.

Singer Michael Ball presented Amy with the award live on stage during the 2021 appeal show on November 21. Amy was nominated by her mum Helen Wright who sets up a Just Giving page for her daughter every year.

On Sunday, October 9 Amy will be back with Mr Ball as a live guest on Radio 2 around 12.30pm to kickstart Children in Need 2022.

In November, to capitalise Amy’s fundraising success the mother and daughter duo are hosting a fashion show in Bradbeers Romsey department store.

Amy, now 37, began her charitable journey at five years old when she announced on the radio at her special school the words “please help”. Since then, the do-gooder has taken part in activities such as charity walks, bake sales, movie nights and last year danced 31 hours across 31 days to celebrate 31 years of raising money for Children in Need.

Mum Helen said: “Amy never looks for recognition but she certainly deserves it. Amy has her own challenges, she has cerebral palsy and learning problems and to see her walk onto that stage on her own in front of millions of people was just mind blowing really.

“It was a lovely accolade to finally get that recognition after 31 years of raising money for Pudsey.”

Amy and Helen along with the head of ladies fashion and a choreographer from Bradbeers have been busy preparing for their biggest ever fundraising event.

The fashion show is set to take place on November 4 from 7pm at the Mountbatten School. A mix of 40 male and female models from the Romsey branch will be strutting down the catwalk in Bradbeers fashion.

Romsey Rock Choir is performing at half time, while raffle tickets will also be on offer.

Helen added: “We obviously want to raise lots of money for Children in Need but it’s also going to be part of Amy’s legacy. Normally we raise more than £2000 in one hit but this year I’m hoping to raise about £5000.”

Two hundred tickets are available from Bradbeers costing £10 each. To donate go to justgiving.com/fundraising/Amy-Wrightfashionshow.
