AN arson attack that destroyed equipment in a kids' play park in Kings Worthy is being investigated by police.  

Arsonists targeted the play equipment in Pound Road, Kings Worthy on Friday night (September 24).

Firefighters were called after the blaze was spotted by passerby Adam Keki, from Basingstoke, who was visiting a friend’s house. He said he saw the flames spread and damage a nearby car.  

Hampshire Chronicle:

A spokesman from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: “Winchester firefighters were called at 12.34am on Saturday morning to a fire at a play park on Pound Road in Kings Worthy.  

"The fire was quickly extinguished using hose reels before the crew returned to station shortly after 1am.” 

The incident has been condemned by the parish council. Chairman Matthew Miller-Hall said: “It’s hit everybody very hard.”  

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary urged people to call with information.  

They said: “We are making enquiries after receiving a report of an arson at a play area in Fraser Road, Kings Worthy.

“The incident is reported to have taken place sometime between 10pm on Friday, September 23 and 12.30am on Saturday, September 24.
