A WINCHESTER windows business has been wound up after it ceased trading on July 28.

County Windows, in Easton Lane, Winnall, specialised in conservatories, doors and windows.

The Chronicle previously reported that the business ceased trading with no warning to its customers and employees.

This left customers out of pocket and with unfinished jobs. It also meant that contractors were out of work.

Work ranged from house extensions to new doors, with many customers wanting answers.

Now, the business has been officially wound up after a notice was published on The Gazette website which is the official public record.

The notice said: "That the company be wound up voluntarily and Andrew John Whelan of WSM Marks Bloom LLP, Unit 2 Spinnaker Court, 1C Becketts Place, Hampton Wick, Kingston upon Thames KT1 4EQ be appointed as liquidator for the purposes of such voluntary winding up."

A former County Windows employee recently spoke to the Chronicle and detailed the firm's last day.

He said that one of the directors told him 'the wheels have come off' and instructed him to inform the contractors that operations had ceased.

He also said it was a difficult way for it to end.

Amir Kharkowa paid £20,000 towards an £80,000 extension to his house in Reading in March.

He said: "One feels rather let down that a company selected on their many years of trading and long-standing can take such a large sum when it would appear insolvent.

"Consumers should be very wary of paying a deposit and if asked to do so limit this to no more than £5,000 whatever the total cost of the contract."

County Glass which is based next door to County Windows has been a separate company for five years and is unaffected.
