The Queen visited Winchester on a number of occasions during her lifetime.

Some excellent photos from the Daily Echo archive show the Queen on visits to Winchester, meeting officials and members of the public.

The earliest photo is from 1955, at the Winchester Guildhall giving an address just three years after becoming Queen.

The Queen also visited Winchester Cathedral for the Maundy Service in in 1979.

More recently, the Queen delighted crowds in 2003, where the photos show her chatting to children and receiving flowers.

The latest photos are from 2005, when the Queen visited St Cross for the The Kings Royal Rifle Corps 250th celebrations.
