A teenager from the Winchester area who was caught with a samurai sword and lock knife in a public place has been ordered to attend a weapons awareness course as his punishment.
The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found with the two blades in Southampton on May 20 this year.
Appearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court on Monday, September 5 he was also convicted of assaulting PC Michael Mulvey on the same date.

The bench imposed a youth rehabilitation order which will see the teen participate in the course, as directed by Hampshire's Youth Offending Team, for a total of 16 hours spread across eight days.
He'll also have to attend appointments with a responsible officer at a time and place of their choosing.
The defendant was further ordered to pay £40 in compensation to PC Mulvey. His guilty plea was taken into account while imposing the sentence.
