Pub chain Fullers spent a "significant" amount of money on the refurb in effort to "refresh" the interior for its customers.

It comes after the hotel rooms above the pub had a re-touch five years ago, along with the Coach House restaurant and V&A rooms.

Pub manager Kyle Alexander said: "We stripped the floors and gave the bar a new carpet, which took away over 50 years of pub muck. It was the first time it had been touched in around 40 years.

"It feels a lot lighter and brighter and it functions as the same pub. The flooring has been stripped, sanded and varnished, we have laid a new carpet, given the pub a new lick of paint and colour scheme, we have new ceilings and the bar was reconstructed from the inside.

"Tables and chairs have also been renovated to be more fit for purpose and the tables have a new top. It's all just a lot nicer."

Ahead of the refurb, all artefacts such as walking sticks, artwork, pictures and cups were photographed and catalogued before being put back in their original place.
