STAFF at a Romsey hair salon were inspired by a Ukrainian employee’s journey to raise money to help support children from Ukraine.
Aura Hair Design hosted a charity event on Saturday, August 13, raising £800 for Save the Children. The entire team opened the salon doors all day for free haircuts, blow dries and styling to new and current clients in return for donations for the charity.
Aura hairdresser Diana fled Ukraine to Romsey with her two children three months ago. As a qualified hairdresser in Ukraine, Diana turned to Aura Hair Design to gain some UK work experience and improve her English and has since been working at the salon two days a week.

After learning about Diana’s journey Aura Hair Design owner Sarah Bennett decided to host the charity event in her new colleague’s name to raise funds for charity and to bring the community together. Diana’s chosen charity was Save the Children, since more than 220 children have been killed in Ukraine since February 24, this year.
The charity has been providing basic essentials such as food, water and mental health support to more than 121,000 children so far. Save the Children is also providing safe spaces and running child protection services to help families remain together, and safely reunite lost children with their families.
Event organiser and salon owner, Sarah said: “We are so delighted to have been able to support Diana not only by bring her on board as a member of the team, but by raising this money in her name for the children of Ukraine. We were so touched by the support of the local community, and all our wonderful clients, and even the Romsey Mayor himself Neil, who came out to support our event. Thank you to everyone who supported us and helped us raise an amazing £800. And a huge thank you to my amazing team who worked hard all day to raise the funds. It was a lovely day and I’m very proud of them all.”
