EDUCATION watchdogs have temporarily closed a holiday camp at a Hampshire school after three separate incidents in which children were injured.

Parents and guardians of youngsters attending the summer activities run by Fit for Sport at Boundary Oak School, Fareham, have been sent an email informing them of the closure.

It comes after an Ofsted inspection found that youngsters were not being adequately supervised.

The inspection was conducted following incidents in which one child damaged a tooth, another sustained a fractured wrist and a third youngster was taken to A&E, also with a fracture.

The Monday-to-Friday day sessions are run by Fit For Sport, an external childcare organisation registered with Ofsted.

One parent said she was shocked to hear about the findings, adding: "We put our trust in Fit For Sport when we left our son with them.

"We rely on childcare as we are both working and we are disappointed that they did not provide the basics.

"Safety is the one thing you would expect a reputable provider to ensure.

"Me and other parents are looking at Fit For Sport for reassurance - and we will be reconsidering any further bookings until we receive it.”

The email to parents said: "We have had to temporarily close the camp offering at the school whilst we take the necessary further steps to improve supervision.

"We understand this issue has been highly disappointing for families and would like to reassure you that we are working with the relevant parties to enhance our supervision with Boundary Oak with the highest priority."

In a statement Fit For Sport said children's safety was its number one priority.

It added: "We are highly disappointed with the inspection result at Boundary Oak and are working with the relevant parties to put immediate action plans in place "Having successfully operated at over 80 venues this summer we are saddened that our families at Boundary Oak have had to make alternative arrangements.

"We have been proactive in our work with the families via a virtual Parent Open Forum.

"Communications with our partners at Boundary Oak and Ofsted have resulted in the immediate activation of our robust action plans to ensure this is an isolated incident."

A statement from Boundary Oak School said Fit for Sport operates its holiday club separately and independently from the school and that it would be reviewing the contract once the report has been published.
