A Test Valley councillor is to put forward a motion to declare a 'cost of living emergency’.
Cllr Nik Daas, who represents the Romsey Abbey ward, will put forward the motion to Test Valley Borough Council at the next full council on September 7.
He is calling on local MPs to put pressure on the government to implement measures to ease the cost of living crisis.
The motion calls on MPs to support a cut in VAT from 20 per cent to 17.5 per cent, implement an energy price cap for local businesses, of which they are open to uncapped bills, implement a price cap for heating oil for residents in rural communities and ensure the pensions triple-lock is restored.
Cllr Daas said: "I feel that as a local representative of Test Valley and the area I grew up in, I should take this opportunity to representative the views of residents on the biggest issues facing us all. As a council, it is our duty to protect our residents and businesses, and by passing this motion we can take a step further to do this."
