A PROPOSED granny annexe in Romsey has been opposed by the town council.

The application, sent by Joyce Mayhall, was to demolish a garage and erect an annexe with associated parking on site. It also included a new garage at the propery in Cedar Lawn.

The council's main objection was that the annexe appears to be one and a half floors high.

They were worried that if the application was permitted, it would set a precedent for others.

An objection from Peter and Vivien Lelyveld said: "It is stated that this application is to build an annexe. The plans with this application show a one-bed detatched house with all the amenities including a seperate parking space and patio.

"The proposed property is totally out of character. The application shows a design which includes a metal roof and walls being wooden clad. This is vastly different to the other houses where there is the conventional build of brick and tile."
