A WINCHESTER family and their ten dogs have been left homeless after a bonfire got out of control.
Firefighters were called to a fire in Alresford Road, Winchester on Saturday night when a bonfire spread to the bungalow.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service treated one casualty for minor burns. The person was then taken to hospital by paramedics from the South Central Ambulance Service.
The incident leaves a mother and father, their daughter, two grandchildren and their 10 dogs homeless, although all residents safely vacated the property.
Firefighters from Winchester, Alresford, Eastleigh, Whitchurch, Alton, Hightown and Redbridge received the call at 7.57pm on Saturday, August 6.
Half of the roof was completely damaged by the fire with the rest of the building being damaged by the smoke and water as well.
The fire was eventually stopped by around 12.40 am, Sunday night using jets, hose reels and the ultra-high-pressure lance.
A total of 16 breathing apparatus sets were used by the fire crews.
Further support vehicles came from Burley, Andover and Fareham to help tackle the blaze.
The number of emergency vehicles led to the Police closing Alresford Road.
One crew returned the following morning (Sunday, August 7) to check for remaining hotspots.
A friend of the family, Tania Lane, has set up a GoFundMe to help raise funds for the victims and “hopefully get them tents or something else to sleep and clothes for everyone.”
