REFURBISHMENT work is underway at the vacant site of a former Winchester post office.
What was The News Shop in Upper High Street now has a "to let" sign in the window and has been completely stripped of its paint furnishings as interest mounts in the empty unit.
The post office closed in November last year after the previous postmaster resigned.
Winchester estate agent Goadsby is now advertising the shop to potential retailers and has said it has already received enquiries - although it remained coy on the details.
A spokesman for the Winchester's branch said: "The new lease is direct from the landlord and the property is on the market to let. We've had some interest so far but are unable to disclose who from."
