AWARD-WINNING refill shop Lemon & Jinja is preparing to welcome people to its pop-up location.

The eco-refill store was recently awarded best sustainable business in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight as part of the Muddy Stiletto awards. Now, the shop is up for best sustainable business in the UK.

Following their success, the retailer based in Abbey Park Industrial Estate, Romsey, has grasped the opportunity to open an additional pop-up shop in 23 Bell Street.

The shop staff are looking to boost Lemon & Jinja’s environmental presence in town, throughout the month of July, which is also plastic-free July.

Jess Dugdale, owner of Lemon & Jinja said: “Having this pop up in Romsey town centre is a great way to get more established in the local community and to showcase what we do and why we do it.

“We’re excited to show everyone why we were voted the best sustainable business in Hampshire!

“And we are grateful to our landlords for giving us this opportunity, without them it wouldn’t be possible.

“We are excited to meet new people who may have not heard about us and chat to them about how they can reduce their plastic waste in their households.

“We have a wide range of products available on refill including household cleaning liquids like washing up liquid and fabric conditioner, and lots of food items including pasta, rice, cereal, dried fruit, nuts, and chocolate snacks. We also offer a wide range of non-food products that all come in plastic-free packaging.

"For the pop-up we will have our best-sellers with us. Excitingly, we will have our coffee machine too, to allow customers to try our blends. If they like what they taste, the coffee beans will be available to purchase. We will not be offering disposable takeaways, as we are a zero waste shop, so encourage customers to bring their own cups with them. "

Jess, 27, set up Lemon and Jinja in 2018 before moving into the Romsey base in March 2019.

Jinja (pronounced ‘ginger’) is a town located on the historic source of the Nile in Uganda.

Jess went to school as a teenager in Uganda. Her time spent in Uganda, working with animals and seeing the negative impacts humans can have on the planet inspired the business.

Since the shop opened in Romsey, the refill store has doubled in size with over 450 products available as well as a small café.

Jess and the rest of the team have been looking for expansion opportunities and while the pop-up in Bell Street is a temporary location, the refill shop is excited to become more visible in Romsey and promote their ethos.

The Lemon & Jinja pop-up store will be open from Saturday, July 2 for four weeks until Saturday, July 30.
