Romsey Male Voice Choir’s joint charity concert with Notability – a talented mixed-voice chamber choir from the Greater Manchester area, will take place after two cancellations.
The concert, at Thornden Hall in Chandler’s Ford, will be held on June 25 for an evening of songs to suit all tastes entitled: ‘Let Us Entertain You!’
Romsey MVC’s chairman, Kevin Cleary said: “More than 12 years ago I first met Paul Trimble, the leader of Notability, on a Baltic cruise. He encouraged me to join the on-board choir and we became firm friends.
“In 2019 we first invited them to come and sing with us but the ‘lockdown’ sadly put an end to that attempt. Then in October 2021 Covid struck directly when several of their choir tested positive and their trip had to be aborted at the eleventh hour. We are all keeping our fingers crossed that nothing untoward occurs to prevent the rearranged concert going ahead on June 25.”

Notability have chosen repertoire for this concert that demonstrates their wide range of musical interests. The first set will feature religious music from the last 400 years, including the famous ‘Bogoroditse Devo’ by Rachmaninov and favourites by John Rutter and Howard Goodall.
The second set will open with a modern masterpiece ‘Sure on this Shining Night’ by American composer Morten Lauridsen and then the mood will completely change as Queen, Chilcott and Duke Ellington take over, leading to a rousing finale ‘Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat’ from the musical ‘Guys and Dolls’.
Meanwhile Romsey MVC will offer their usual wide selection of songs too including several numbers which they premièred at the recent Cornwall International Male Choral Festival and a spirited rendition of everyone’s favourite ‘Sweet Caroline’.
Tickets are available via the Thornden Hall website: www.thorndenhall.co.uk. The charity they are supporting is Naomi House and Jacksplace Hospices.
