If you are looking for an intelligent four-legged friend, one of these five might just fit the bill.
Currently being cared for by German Shepherd Rescue South in Hampshire, these dogs are all seeking forever homes.
The small charity, based in Fareham, rescues and rehomes unwanted, abused or stray German Shepherd dogs, aiming to keep them in their own home, find a suitable new home for them or place them in a foster home.

Bree
Age: 1 year
Gender: Female
Colour: Tri colour
Bree is sadly looking for a new home due to a relationship break up.
She currently lives with a small dog and teenage children and happily walks with other dogs - she can have a bit of a bark at new dogs but has never shown aggression towards them.
Bree is an anxious little girl who will need a confident, calm adopter.
Bree is currently in her own home near Portsmouth.

Cookie
Age: 1 year
Gender: Male
Colour: Black and tan
Cookie came to the rescue centre a few months ago after he was going to be put to sleep by his previous owner due to his behavioural issues.
He had three homes in his short 11 months of life before arriving at German Shepherd Rescue.
Cookie is an adorable boy who loves fuss and attention but does have issues with mouthing and jumping up - this isn’t just typical “puppy” behaviour but due to lack of socialization as a puppy.
Cookie’s behaviour has improved over the past month or so at kennels but he will need an experienced rescue home with a lot of patience and perseverance.
Any potential adopter might need to enlist the help of a behaviourist.
He will need to be the only dog to begin with as he requires a lot of attention and due to his behaviour, can't live with children.
He needs an active home as he has a lot of energy.
Cookie is the most adorable dog and is finding kennels quite stressful so would love to find his forever home.

Koda
Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Colour: Black and tan
Koda has been in kennels now for a long time and requires a very special home.
Sadly, he is highly anxious with people he doesn’t know and is very fearful of men, he therefore needs an experienced single female only home with no other animals or children.
Koda needs a rural home away from a lot of traffic and people – he is very strong on the lead and will try and chase cars and bikes.
He needs a home with very few visitors and needs a safe place in the home or a kennel in the garden where he can go when people do visit.
He will need multiple visits at the kennels near Southampton.

Loki
Age: 3 years
Gender: Female
Colour: White
Loki has returned to the rescue centre after being rehomed five months ago.
She needs a confident owner who will work with her to overcome her fears and will need a home where she is the only dog. Despite this, Loki is happy to walk with some dogs but can also be reactive to others.
In her last home she also made friends with a confident cat.
She will need a safe place to go to when visitors come into the home and an owner who will take things at a slow pace.
A semi-rural or rural location would be ideal, so she doesn't get bombarded with too much going on.
Multiple visits to the kennels will be needed to get to know Loki before she is rehomed.

Duke
Age: 1 year
Gender: Male
Colour: Black and tan
Duke has come back into rescue through no fault of his own.
Duke has complex issues, he has not been given clear directions or boundaries so needs an experienced, patient owner who will listen to the advice given by the rescue and follow it.
He will require multiple visits to the kennels near Southampton and potential adopters must be prepared to walk him in different situations before being allowed to go to his new home.
He needs a quiet home with no children or other pets so time can be spent working with him.
Duke is a very strong boy on the lead so new owners will also need to be physically strong.
Duke is a lovely dog who hasn’t had the best start in life so if you are an experienced German shepherd owner perhaps you can give him the chance he deserves.
