THE former site of Dinghams Cookshop looks set to be turned into a deli and wine bar.

The building has been taken over by the owners of General Store and the new Pump House, Alex Donnan and Laura Turner.

On a poster attached to the building, it says that Autumn House, in The Square, will be a ‘contemporary food and retail experience.’

It is directly opposite to the owner's General Store, which sells groceries, provisions, wine, cheese and charcuterie.

They have also recently opened The Pump House, which is an exclusive, members only, venue. According to its website, it offers: “Co-working and wellbeing space, with open plan work spaces, private meeting rooms, zoom pods and coffee lounge. A gym, yoga studio and classes, recording studio, screen room and weekly members only events.”

The poster outside, says that Autumn House customers will be able to: “Enjoy fresh delicatessen food and dine at the bar with a glass of wine.”

Also: “Our in-house coffee expert can make you a coffee to have in or takeaway and show you round our selection of speciality coffee machines to have at home.”

It mentions how they will continue to sell cookware products. “To keep the spirit of Dinghams alive, you can shop a carefully curated selection of home and cookwares.”

Dinghams Cookshop closed in January after owners could no longer afford to pay the rent.

Before the new name was announced, Winchester BID executive director Paul Spencer said: “This is excellent news for Winchester and while we are sad to see Dinghams leave the city, it’s good to know that another local independent business is looking to take on this space.”

Mr Donnan said: “We hope that we can build on the superb reputation that The Square has already built over the years and create a real hive of activity that will hopefully benefit all of the wonderful retailers in the street.
“Our hope is that it will generate around 10-15 local jobs for local people.
“It's our belief that we will be open this May.”
