A CLIMATE action group recently held a protest in Winchester
Extinction Rebellion (XR) marched through the streets of Winchester on March 26, as they underlined the UN’s declaration of ‘Code red’ for human-driven global heating.
Backed by the buoyant rhythms of the XR Samba band, over 60 activists set out from the Great Hall and into the city centre, carrying cut-out tombstones.
As the demonstration reached its finale at Winchester Cathedral, activists encouraged people to join them at the group’s April 9 Rebellion in London.

As the procession came to an end and epitaphs were showcased along the cathedral railings, one activist delivered a call to action.
XR Winchester member Vanessa Grapple said: “We had a fantastic turnout today, from XR Winchester and Southampton groups, as well from other local green groups. The public showed a huge amount of support as we moved through the streets, underlining the huge public demand for governments to act now and tell the truth as they face up to the climate crisis”.
