A Winchester man has been ordered to pay hundreds of pounds for dropping a cigarette butt.

Marian Lungu, of Andover Road, has been fined £220 after being caught dropping the fag end in Above Bar Street, Southampton, on September 1 last year.

The 53-year-old will also have to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and a further £168.75 in costs.

The total amount of £422.75 is to be paid by April 12.

Lungu wasn't required to attend the hearing, which took place at Portsmouth Magistrates Court on Tuesday, March 15, but the charge of littering was proved in his absence.
