A driver made a miraculous escape this morning after crashing into a tree on a major Wickham route.
Police were called to the B2177 near the junction with the A334 at around 6am following reports of a single vehicle collision between a red Renault goods vehicle and a tree.
In a shocking picture released by officers the vehicle can be seen in a ditch to the side of the road with its front half almost completely collapsed.
However, the driver managed to get out of the wreckage, with police paying testament to the vehicle's seatbelt, airbags and 'modern safety standards'.
There were delays on both roads for around an hour as recovery teams worked to retrieve the van and clean up any debris.
The Chronicle has asked the police for further detail on the incident.
