SIR: I have watched from afar regarding the position of the old station masters house. I was born in Romsey in 1943 and lived in Banning Street till 1947 when I moved to Mitchells Close in 1947 until I moved away from home to South Wales.

My father worked at Eastleigh railway works, and like most children went to meet him when he returned home. I got to know many of the staff that worked at the station and did many small jobs that children would not now be allowed to do. I travelled to grammar school at Andover during the 1950s, had rides on many old steam trains. Including the local shunters that took coal to Wills Nursery and Nursling station before they closed down. I spent time in the old signal box as well as getting to know station masters that lived in the station house.

I would love to be able to attend the meeting at the Town hall on Friday but regrettable am unable to make it.

Attached is a photo taken of me in the station yard in about 1955... not very good at computer technology .. but does any body recognise anybody. I was also a member of the RAODS back in the 50s when the wooden shelter was on the side, remember going to collect my coronation mug from Lord Mountbatten, which I still have, and I am sure others will. I also used to do the Christmas cribs in the Advertiser office in Romsey back in the late 50’ early 70s.
