A TRENDY Winchester cafe has announced its expansion, which will create five jobs.
Known for its cocktails, coffee and atmosphere, Cabinet Rooms in Jewry Street is expanding premises into the property next door, formerly Computer Solutions.
Owner Gary Whiter said: "A lot of thought has gone into it. We just get so full as we're a really tiny space and we end up turning people away, which we don't want to do, so it felt like a natural move to increase the size.
"The vision is that it's going to be small room but we'll still have that cosy feel with the Cabinet vibe. We're known for our warm welcomes. In the evening it's candlelit with jazz music playing. We'll keep that vibe."
The development has created five jobs, with an immediate requirement for managers, bar tenders and kitchen staff. Cocktail experience is not essential.
Gary said: "We're not expecting to employ people that know everything about cocktails, so it's a really good opportunity for people that have that interest in gin, spirits or maybe they like making cocktails at home, so it's a really good opportunity to get stuck in and learn new skills."
The Cabinet Rooms has been crowned top-rated cafe bar in Winchester by TripAdvisor.
Gary, 44, from Winchester, said he was pleased that an independent has been scored so highly.
He said: "I feel very proud of what we have achieved and grateful that people recognise what we are trying to do here, which is to be a genuine place, welcoming the community.

"We have put a lot of focus on sourcing good quality products. Our coffee is ethically sourced from Extract Coffee Roasters. We put a lot of effort into delivering good customer service and good quality products, so it means a lot."
"We opened in 2017 because there was nowhere we could go for a nice coffee in the evenings or after work, apart from the High Street chains. We wanted to create somewhere people can relax and enjoy good service and quality products without the massive price tag.
"We wanted this to be a creative hub, so we enjoy inviting the local creative community in and hosting events. Over the years we have built a loyal following and a lot of regulars coming in. Seeing friendly faces after three lockdowns has been quite important to us. One couple got married after meeting here."
