ROCK band The Undertones has been announced as one of the headline acts for a Meon Valley music festival.

Wickham Music Festival released its headline acts for this year's festival on its Facebook page this weekend.

The 7,000-person capacity festival, set to take place on fields in Blind Lane just outside Wickham, will take place from August 4-7.

Northern Irish band The Undertones, best known for hit Teenage Kicks, will be performing on the Saturday night, the same day as the Levellers and Ferocious Dog.

Scottish band Admiral Farrow will also be making their Wickham Festival debut on the Saturday, while 1970s chart toppers 10CC will also be performing at the event.

Organiser Peter Chegwyn, who has run music festivals for more than 30 years, said they were gearing up for a great weekend - and they have gone back to their usual stage provider after last year saw the festival besieged with problems on the main stage, meaning it could not be used.

Peter said: "Last year was a one-off due to the change of site layout because of Covid regulations. This year we have gone back to our normal staging provider who has not let us down in 20 years."

He said that excitement was building, and that they were looking forward to getting back to normal after two tough years throughout the pandemic.

He said: '"We are very excited, especially after last year and looking back at all the mud we had.

"We are looking forward to this year. It has been very difficult for everyone in the arts and events industries, but hopefully this year we can get back to normal.

"We moved heaven and earth to get the festival on last year, it was tough. But we have a fantastic line up with The Undertones, the Levellers, Water Boys, 10cc and more yet to be confirmed.

"Plus this year will be the first year that site has been on green fields. The field is now grass and should provide a much better experience.

"It has been a grim time for events but we are excitedly looking to the future and the public are clearly sharing our excitement as our ticket sales have been the best ever."

Peter also said they were planning on reverting back to the festival's traditional layout with events taking place on the Pricketts Hill end.

The festival has been taking place at Wickham since 2006.
