PEOPLE aged over 65 are being given the opportunity to have lessons on how to use their tech.

TechFest65, a free event that helps over-65s become more confident using their smartphones, tablets and laptops, is returning to Winchester on Thursday, February 24 at The United Church, Winchester.

Hosted by Winchester-based domiciliary care company, Everycare, the afternoon event will help local people get more from their tech gadgets.

Everycare supports older people living at home with expert, trained home care professionals.

Attendees will also be given the chance to experience the latest assisted living technology.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) 2021 has reported that 3.36 million adults in the UK have never used the internet, suggesting that 46 per cent of adults aged 75 and over still struggle to get online.

TechFest65 will consist of a series of hands-on workshops, where older people and their families are encouraged to bring their phones, laptops and tablets to learn first-hand how to get more from their gadgets.

Whilst smartphones and tablets are the main focus of the workshop, attendees will also be able to explore social media, apps, the internet and more.

TechFest65 is also an opportunity to discover how new, simple-to-use devices which can help older people live safely and with confidence in their own homes, for longer.

Mike Frizzell, Everycare director said: “Everycare recognises that as you get older, it’s not always easy to get to grips with different devices and technology. TechFest65 will help older people discover how quick and easy it is to connect with their loved ones, through the use of smartphones, tablets, and social media.

“The event is also an opportunity to learn more about the latest technology that can help older people live at home for longer. Home monitoring devices help carers and loved ones keep in touch with the health and wellbeing of older people via the internet.”

The event will be held on Thursday, February 24 at The United Church, Winchester at 1.30pm until 3.30pm.
