A BUILDING that once housed a Post office is now under offer.
Upper High Street Post Office closed in November last year, following the resignation of the postmaster.
Now a sign has appeared in the window stating that the building is "under offer".
Estate agents Goadsby, which has marketed the premises, has been contacted by the Chronicle but they were unable to provide any information about the future tenants.
The shop currently bares empty shelves with a "closed" sign on the door.
The Post Office closed after being unable to find a new postmaster.
Yesterday (Monday), a Post Office spokesperson said: “Upper High Street Post Office in Winchester closed on Tuesday, November 30 due to the resignation of the postmaster.
"We know how important a Post Office is to a community.
"The vacancy is advertised on www.runapostoffice.co.uk. We would welcome interest from local retailers. We are working hard to try to restore service to this area as soon as possible.
"Post Office Ltd is looking for a successful retailer to incorporate a Post Office Local into their existing or proposed business in the Upper High Street area.
“In the interim alternative branches include Winchester and Stoney Lane.”
The full addresses of alternative branches are:
• Winchester Post Office, 110 High Street, Winchester, SO23 9AH
• Stoney Lane Post Office, 61-65 Stoney Lane, Winchester, SO22 6EW
A spokesperson for Goadsby said an offer has been made on the property.
